Police Recruitment In conjunction with the City of Naples Department of Human Resources, Professional Standards is responsible for recruiting, testing, screening and conducting background investigations on all sworn officers and police officer trainees. Police applicants are required to undergo a series of examinations and must pass a rigorous background examination before they can be considered for employment.  

We are currently accepting applications for:

  • Certified Officers - starting salary $62,000/year
    • certification must be current, either within the State of Florida and from out of the state, and be eligible for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Equivalency of Training (EOT) program, which is paid for by the department (https://www.fdle.state.fl.us/CJSTC/Officer-Requirements/Equivalency-of-Training.aspx);
       
    • $5,000 signing bonus that will be paid in two (2) installments as outlined below:
      • $2,500 on newly hired Police Officer’s first paycheck.

      • $2,500 after successful completion of Field Training Program.

    • Up to $2,500 reimbursement for moving expenses to individuals that currently reside 100 or more miles from Naples.
       
    • Salary premiums offered to those with prior years of sworn law enforcement experience, or sworn military police experience, at another agency or department as follows for FY 2022-2023:
      • $3,993 premium for two (2) through nine (9) years of qualifying previous experience.

      • $4,950 premium for ten or more (10+) years of qualifying previous experience.

    • $400 monthly commuter stipend. 

    • Reimbursement of the academy tuition costs to a candidate who paid the cost themselves and has not previously worked for law enforcement agencies. This reimbursement would be contingent upon a 2-year employment commitment. If officer leaves prior to that commitment, he/she will have to pay that amount back to the City (FS 943.16).
       
    • Applicants employed on or after July 1, 2022, and who have never been previously employed as a law enforcement officer in the State of Florida, will be eligible to receive a one-time bonus payment of $5,000 paid through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Payment Program. 
      • Recipients must maintain continuous full-time employment for at least two (2) consecutive years.
  • Police Officer Trainees - starting salary $52,000
    • full sponsorship in the Southwest Florida Public Service Academy.
       
    • $5,000 signing bonus that will be paid in two (2) installments as outlined below:
      • $2,500 on newly hired Police Officer’s first paycheck.

      • $2,500 after successful completion of the basic recruit training program.

    • Up to $2,500 reimbursement for moving expenses to individuals that currently reside 100 or more miles from Naples.

Training In the State of Florida, a new police officer is required to undergo an extensive training course before they are eligible to take the Law Enforcement Officer Certification Examination. Once certified and employed, police officers are required to undergo continuing training in order to maintain their law enforcement certification.

The Naples Police Department firmly believes in the importance of relevant training and provides training to its personnel well above the State of Florida's mandatory minimum.
