City Attorney

The City Attorney is the chief legal adviser of, and attorney for the City of Naples relating to official powers and duties of the City and its numerous departments, boards and committees.

The City Attorney's office does not provide legal advice to members of the public.

The City Attorney's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prosecuting and defending, for and on behalf of the City, all complaints, suits, and controversies in which City is a party, other than insurance defense.
  • Furnishing the City Council, City Manager, and Department Heads with opinions on any questions of law relating to their respective powers and duties.
  • Preparing and/or approving all contracts, bonds, and other formal instruments entered into by the City.
  • Attending and rendering legal advice to the City Council during General and Special Sessions of the Council.
  • Attending and rendering legal advice to various City boards or City staff at a variety of meetings.
  • Preparing or approving resolutions, ordinances, and other legal documents for the City.
  • Performing such other professional duties as may be required by ordinance or resolution of the City Council, or by the City Charter, or as are prescribed for City Attorneys under the laws of this State, not inconsistent with the City Charter or Code.
