Naples Police routinely joins hundreds of other law enforcement agencies across Florida in their efforts to enforce seat belt laws during the "Click It or Ticket" campaigns which run at various times throughout the year. Here in Naples, seat belt usage is normally well above the national average of 83%.  During a prior Click It or Ticket campaign, we saw our normal 88% rise to 93%, meaning we need only 7% more to reach our goal. According to 2008 statistics 1,795 were killed while driving or riding in vehicles equipped with safety belts.  Sixty percent of them (1,085) were not wearing a safety belt.

Research has shown that lap/shoulder belts, when used properly; reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent and the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50 percent.  For light-truck occupants, safety belts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 60 percent and moderate-to-critical injury by 65 percent. As a reminder, Florida law now considers seat belt violations a primary violation. This means you may now be stopped if anyone in the vehicle chooses to ignore the seat belt law.
