Diver surfacing at pier cleanup

Naples Pier Clean Up

The Natural Resources Division partners with the local community to perform an annual underwater cleanup of the Naples Pier, a popular fishing and viewing location in the city. Both topside and diver volunteers can sign up for this event by contacting the Natural Resources Division. Divers rid the pier pilings of monofilament line, ropes, crab traps, hooks, and other debris that can harm marine life. Once divers surface the debris, volunteers stationed on top of the pier haul the debris up using buckets and ropes and dispose it in trash bins.

Artificial Reef Clean Up

The Natural Resources Division partners with Collier County staff to clean up some of Naples most heavily-used reefs in conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup. As a result of their popularity, local reefs can accumulate large amounts of fishing gear - cast nets, fishing line, lures, boat anchors, ropes and other debris. Abandoned fishing gear threatens marine life by entanglement or ingestion, and can also act as a hazard to local boaters, anglers, and divers. Cleanup efforts over the past decade have removed thousands of pounds of debris from local waters.
