A lot of folks love Dixieland Jazz! And we Sure do!
The music has its roots in New Orleans, La., but came from many American sources – minstrel shows, ragtime and cakewalks, and the blues. It left New Orleans during the First World War, and the “Jazz Age” swept the world during the “Roaring Twenties”
This kind of jazz continued to be VERY popular during the Depression of the 1930’s, but faded away somewhat as the “Big Bands” of the 1940’s came along. Modern jazz, rock and roll, and punk music followed – but the early jazz survives, and still pleases today’s audiences.
There’s nothing happier than a toe-tapping Dixieland tune – and nothing sadder than a sorrowful blues. These are truly American culture at its best!
