City of Naples and Naples Beach Club Holdings Sign Historic Conservation Easement that Will Protect Golf Course Open Space in Perpetuity

Conservation Easement signing

Naples, Fl., June 29, 2022 – Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann and Jay Newman of Naples Beach Club Holdings, a joint venture of The Athens Group and MSD Partners, L.P., developers of Naples Beach Club, recently executed a landmark Conservation Easement that will preserve in perpetuity 104.6 acres of recreation and open space at the site of the former Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club’s golf course.

The Conservation Easement is the culmination of a complex, innovative, and historic collaboration among the City of Naples, Naples Beach Club Holdings, and the North American Land Trust (NALT).  NALT is a preeminent not-for-profit organization that is responsible for more than 600 conservation easements nationwide and known for its innovative land conservation partnerships.

Mayor Heitmann said, “The Conservation Easement identifies North American Land Trust as the holder of the conservation easement and provides the City with rights of enforcement as a successor holder. We are proud to partner with the Naples Beach Club developers and NALT in the execution of the conservation easement.”

The Conservation Easement is particularly unique because the easement area is located in a residential neighborhood in the heart of Old Naples.

Of the total 104.6 restricted acres, the easement permanently establishes in a fixed location 70 contiguous acres of open space along the northern, eastern, and southern boundaries of the existing golf course.

“The Conservation Easement will ensure that 84% of our property can never be developed for residential or other commercial use. We are pleased to have been part of the team that worked together with City officials and NALT on this milestone achievement,” said Newman.
