THE LIFE SAFETY CODE REQUIRES THAT ALL BUSINESSES COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES REGARDING OUTDOOR HEATERS AND PROPANE STORAGE.
Outdoor Patio Heater Safety
- Heaters are for outdoor use only
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions
- Do not use under awnings or umbrellas
- Always maintain 36 inches of clearance from combustibles
- All valves should be closed when the heater is not in use
- Heaters shall not obstruct clear paths of egress
- In the event of a leak shut the gas off and call 911
- Do not use if wind speed is greater than 10 miles per hour
Storage of Propane Cylinders
- Propane cylinders cannot be used, stored, or transported inside or through any structure
- Cylinders shall be stored in approved, locked, and ventilated racks that are protected from vehicular traffic
- Protection against vehicular traffic shall be provided in accordance with good engineering practices.
- Containers shall be stored at least 5 feet from any doorway of a structure with at least two means of egress, and at least 10 feet from any doorway of a structure with only one means of egress.
