Safety & Security Protocols

Effective, Thursday, January 11, 2024, new security protocols will be in place in order to enter City Council Chambers for City Council and the Community Redevelopment Agency Board meetings. All attendees will be required to be screened by metal detector and submit all carried items for a visual search. Prohibited items will not be permitted in Council Chambers. Please arrive early enough for meetings if you wish to be in Chambers before the start of the meeting.

City Council Security Protocols

All persons entering the council chambers are deemed to have given their consent to a search of their property and person to ensure no weapons are brought into the building.

  • Any persons found to be carrying prohibited items will not be permitted to enter and will be asked to return the items to their vehicle prior to entry.
  • Any person refusing to remove restricted items will be denied entry.
  • No weapons will be permitted except for law enforcement personnel.
  • Illegal weapons or other contraband discovered in the course of any search will be seized and confiscated and may result in arrest.

The following are the procedures for attendees to be permitted entry to City Council Chambers:

  • Walk through the rope barrier entry area.
  • Submit all carried items (bags, boxes, briefcases, etc.) for a visual search.
  • Remove all metal and electronic items and place them in provided bins.
  • Walk through the magnetometer (metal detector).
  • If magnetometer alerts, remove any remaining metal items and walk through again.
  • If magnetometer alerts a second time, submit to secondary screening with a hand wand.
  • Prohibited items will not be permitted in Council Chambers.

After entry, attendees may exit chambers into a secure area immediately outside the exit door and re-enter without screening again, so long as they do not leave the secured area (designated by rope barriers).

Prohibited items include:

  • Guns and ammunition
  • Chemical sprays
  • Tasers
  • Knives and sharp objects
  • Flammable or explosive material
  • Tools or other weapons
     

Persons will be asked to remove the following items prior items and place them in provided bins prior to walking through the magnetometer:

  • Electronics
  • Keys
  • Change
  • Metal Bands or Watches
