Meet the City Manager
City Manager A. William MossAbout City Manager Bill Moss
William (Bill) Moss assumed the position of Naples city manager January 2, 2008. His selection was based upon his previous education, experience and qualifications, which prepared him to meet the unique challenge of managing a municipal government for a community with a long and proud history of quality services, an active and involved citizenry and an effective system of governance. He was appointed by the mayor and City Council and is responsible for managing the day-to-day affairs of the city government.

Undergraduate Studies at Southern Illinois University
Bill's interest in city management developed while he was a student at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He was appointed by the student body president to serve with the Carbondale City Council, where he was exposed to the council-manager form of government and the role of a city manager. He adjusted his curriculum to allow for more exposure to local government. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business with a minor in economics.

U.S. Army
After graduation, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army, attended the Officers Candidate School in Ft. Benning, Georgia, and was commissioned as an infantry officer. He was assigned to an infantry unit in West Germany as his first tour, and then to Vietnam, where he earned the Bronze Star Medal. He left the Army after 3 1/2  years and went to Australia to visit a young lady he had met earlier. That young lady was Faye, and she has been his spouse and friend for 35 years.

Graduate School and Early Professional Career
Bill and Faye returned to the United States in order for him to pursue a career in local-government management. He earned a master's degree in public affairs at Southern Illinois University while working with the City of Carbondale, Illinois, where he became the assistant city manager. He was then hired as the city manager of Atlantic Beach, Florida, and later assumed a position as city manager for North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Marco Island City Manager
Prior to joining the Naples community, Bill served 10 years as the city manager for Marco Island, Florida. He was their first city manager and was hired in 1998 to establish and manage the newly incorporated municipality. Bill has more than 34 years of city-management experience.

Family and Personal Life
Bill and Faye have two children. Their son Jason is an attorney in Columbia, South Carolina. Their daughter Karen is a speech pathologist in Naples. Bill and Faye live in Naples and enjoy meeting Naples residents, community events and exercise activities.
