City of Naples, Tax Calculator

The City of Naples, Florida is commonly considered an expensive location to have a home, and for the most part that's true. But the high property values in the city don't equate to high taxes for citizens. In fact, the City of Naples enjoys one of the lowest property tax rates in the State of Florida.

The current City of Naples millage rate is 1.245 mills, or $1.245 per $1,000 of taxable value. That means if you have $100,000 of taxable property value in the city, you would pay only $124.50 in city taxes. While your actual tax bill may be for a much larger amount, the majority of the property taxes you pay go toward school taxes, Collier County taxes, special assessments and so on.

One very valuable feature of being a full-time resident of the State of Florida is the ability to apply for a homestead exemption on property taxes. This exempts the property owner from taxes on the first $25,000 of taxable value, plus it provides for a cap on taxable property value increases in future years, no matter how much that actual value of your property increases. Only about half the properties in the City of Naples receive this exemption, and many who qualify for the exemption fail to file for it.

As an example, on a $250,000 property, the homestead exemption would save you $31.12 in City of Naples taxes just for the $25,000 exemption. In addition, if your home was worth $250,000 last year, in many areas of Naples it might have a taxable value of about $300,000 this year due to the increase in property values, an increae of $50,000 you'd be required to pay taxes on. If you were homesteaded, the increase would be closer to $5,000.

For more information on the homestead exemption, or other property tax information, see the Collier County Property Appraiser's web site at http://www.collierappraiser.com/ and the Collier County Tax Collector's site at http://www.colliertax.com/.
