Naples Police are warning of a possible paving work scam.
It’s not a new scam, but can still prove to be lucrative for the criminals.
Naples police received two reports in as many days with very similar circumstances. In both cases an unknown white male approached a property owner and offered to perform driveway/parking lot repairs.
The male claimed he was finishing another job “in the area” and had extra asphalt which he wanted to get rid of.In one case, they initially gave a $500 quote for the work. Once the work was done though, he tried to demand $5,000 from the property owner. The owner refused to pay the money and the white male left without further incident.
In the second instance, the property owner asked for a quote before work was to be done. However, the crew performed the work without ever providing the quote and then tried to charge the property owner $15,000. The property owner demanded an invoice, which was finally provided under the name Cirkle-K Paving with no address or other contact information.
The man is said to have indentified himself as Gerald Gill and represented his compant as Circle-K Paving.
Remember, legitimate contracting companies will not generally go door to door offering their services. They all must be licensed and must provide that information to customers.
If you are or have been approached by this group and possibly fell victim to them, please contact the police department.
